At Last, Tomatoes

Julia Child, Cosmonaut Volkov, Matina, black cherry, and yellow cherry tomatoes of unknown origin.

First real harvest of the season, and a relatively small one, but given the trials of this summer especially welcome.

These arrived a couple weeks later than 2010. Ate the small ones tonight for supper with torn lemon basil. BLTs tomorrow.

As a line cook I worked with many years ago once said: It ain't love, but it ain't bad.

I know how you feel... I just picked my first tomato this week... now they are coming fast!

More the merrier, though since many plants haven't set much fruit, I don't foresee a record harvest ahead. Maybe the more moderate temps now will kick up production.

Yay! I'm glad that your toms are starting to finally produce :)

Thanks, Ben. I've pretty much decided it was the extreme heat that compromised so many plants.

Well done, RHill. Send us a photo if you get the chance.

This is from your green roof garden? It looks like your garden is well-maintained. The fruits are proof of that! It's great to have your own garden, especially when it bears healthy fruits and vegetables for you. :)
